"Oh no..."
-A Mercenary in the 2021 release trailer, shortly before being shot by Hank
Mercenaries are unused characters that belong to the MERC. They do not make any appearances in the game, and appear to be scrapped. They appear in the beginning of the gameplay footage
in the MADNESS: Project Nexus Trailer, however that part is not featured in the game.
Mercenaries, judging by their stats, seem to be quick and agile, however they have low endurance and corpus health, making them easy to kill. Their level is also a whopping 900, which is way above limit. It is unknown is it is intentional or just a placeholder.
Appearance
Mercenaries wear a gray balaclava, Sanford's body with an orange tint, gray leather gloves and either a Military Combat Vest or an N51 Riot Vest.
After updating the game in v1.03.b (or slightly above or below it), the top of Sanford's clothing is no longer colored
Trivia
- Despite being an unused character, the mercenary had his appearance updated along with the other MERC units, gaining an orange tint to their body.
- Mercenaries can also be seen wearing a black beanie in the MADNESS: Project Nexus Trailer, though they are not set to spawn with a beanie in game.
- The game has a bug, they do not have a faulty AI melee combat, they try to hit the enemy being from him within a radius of 2-3 meters, perhaps this is due to the fact that they use old code, still from the beta version of the game, where they should carry only firearms and attack only at a distance
