madnesscombat

Flood Control is a mission in MADNESS: Project Nexus. The boss in this level is Church and Jorge.

Briefing

The entire Mining Sector is flooded, which makes progressing to the Science Tower from here an imposibility.

Fortunately, we've found an old accessway that looks promising. Best we hammer this one out before we're noticed by whatever lurks down here.

Objectives

Find the Main Pump Release, and drain the water.

Level Details

The level is crawling with Normal and Swamp Zeds and Fanatics armed with throwing daggers and slashed-based melee weapons such as hooks and swords, and the guns and other weapons are usually located in lockers and cabinets, as well as on some of the Zeds that you encounter. Some of the Fanatics are armed with hooks and wear a white hood, and they will try to hook you closer to them. These hooks can destroy a corpus on higher difficulties. Through out the level, you'll be turning valves to reduce the sewage level to get to the main pump. There's a stair case to a platform that leads to a metal door and the first valve. Once you turn the valve, you can proceed. You will approach a similar platform, but you will have to go through the door at the top to get to the 2nd valve. There is a large spinning fan blocking your way as well as grinding the approaching zeds into ground meat. There's a lever for the fan, a med station, and melee weapons located nearby. Get yourself ready to fight the horde before turning off the fan. After the fight with the zeds, you will reach the second valve. After turning the valve, you will have to fight your way back against fanatics to the entrance of the room. Head deeper into the level and you will encounter Graveseeker Bandits. Do not underestimate the shovel when you fight them head on. After clearing the room and going in deeper, you will encounter a lifted bridge. Fight your way to the lever at the north of it to lower them, and lift the bridge again to open the door. You know what to do once you enter the room and walk into a flooded area. There is one final room below the one with the valve. It will have 2 med stations. This is the room before the boss fight ahead. Get yourself ready and proceed.

Before you even get to the boss fight, you have to turn more valves to lower the water level. Be careful in this room, because the path is narrow and you can fall into the sewage below. There are also fanatics and zeds to make traversal more difficult. You will run into another 2 med stations a cabinet of weapons at the bottom of the room before the boss arena. Stock up because you will enter a small arena against the brothers and they will kick you off the platform if you get too careless. After one of the brothers is down, reinforcements will arrive from the manholes to support the other one. Once you kill both bosses, you can finally turn the last valve of the level.

A slime-stained page labeled "Excerpts of His Buoyancy" reads:

"...and wee be unto those Unbuoyant who have erred under the guidance of the False Prophet, Jebediah Christoff, and his pseudoscientific tower of Babel! For only through Buoyancy may we avoid the true and dreaded end of all living things: descension into The Other Place!"

A scum-stained page labeled "Excerpts of His Buoyancy" reads:

"It was only by the divination of His Buoyancy and his loving embrace that begot the multitudes, those who could not return to death from life: The Buoyant!

"They would replace the hubris-children of the wretched Jebediah Christoff, the Punished Ones...terrible abominations, they!..., who hunger and howl and send others needlessly to an Unbuoyant Death.

"That this False Prophet should stand in judgement of His Buoyancy's master work and call it 'Plan Zed'...! Such hubris! For it shall stand be Christoff who stands judged when The Other Place awakens and claims us all!"

An offal-crusted page labeled "Excerpts of His Buoyancy" reads:

"...when the end of times, thusly foretold by His Buoyancy's great benefactor, the eminent Director Phobos, and those Higher Powers what saw it fit to pass, it will be at the failure of the Unbuoyant Masses to halt its coming.

"The fate of Nevada rests now in the hands of beings too lesser to know the responsibility they so willingly shoot, cut and bash their way to all of our ruin. We will be forgotten, everyone one of us, as a dream. And then we will be no more."
